A Framework for Action

Adopting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals to use business as a force for good.

It is overwhelming to contemplate the work necessary to mitigate the unimaginable damage humans have inflicted on the planet.

And while many point to business as the source of social, economic, and environmental catastrophe, and rightfully so in some cases, we are part of a movement of mission-focused businesses empowered to use business as a force for good in the world.

We became a Certified B Corporation in 2013 and were honored as a Best for the World Honoree in 2017, 2018, and 2019. Our certification is one way we express our commitment to match our practices to our principles as a mission-focused business that measures success on the Triple Bottom Line of people, planet, and profit.

During our B Corp recertification, we discovered the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) via the SDG Action Manager, a tool that helps us integrate these goals into our own.

Seventeen SDGs serve as a framework to help reach a goal of global sustainable balance by 2030. Global warming, mounting waste, surging development, mass misinformation, and vast consumerism have pushed our planet to its capacity. As a result, the United Nations has taken on the difficult work of building a structure to help achieve the hefty global goals that will help ensure the longevity of our planet for future generations.

The SDGs adopt the Triple Bottom Line foundation but add the essential ingredients of Peace and Partnership. The addition of these two tenants creates a framework that is well rounded, inclusive, and creates a universal call to action for businesses, not-for-profits, governments, communities, and individuals, to work collectively to make a quick and focused impact for saving our planet.

Embracing the SDGs helps us see we are not alone in our work. We are proud to build relationships with other businesses, organizations, and consultants who have committed their energy to promote and implement the SDGs.

Although we will integrate all 17 of the goals (link to goals) into our business, Pixel Parlor currently is, and will continue to, have the most impact on the following goals:

Goal 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages

Goal 4: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all

Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.

Goal 6: Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all

Goal 8: Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all

Goal 12: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns

As a design studio we can address these issues in several ways:

1: Contribute solutions for each of the goals,

2: Change or refine our processes to better facilitate these goals,

3: Provide services to businesses and organizations that help work towards these goals

4: Collaborate with vendors who can better help achieve these goals.

When you partner with us you become a partner in a global movement. There is a lot of work to do, but we know we are not alone and that pursuing these goals energizes our work.
